Milojka Štrukelj
Milojka Štrukelj joined the National Liberation Movement (NOB) already as a secondary school student in 1941. The following year, she was arrested by the Italians and imprisoned in the Gorizia prisons. After four months of interrogation, she was transferred for another four months to the Roman prison Regina Coeli; due to the Italian capitulation, she was not sentenced, but she was detained in other prisons as well (Trieste, Trento).
After her release, in October 1943 she became secretary of the Gorizia city committee of SKOJ, and in January 1944 she began attending the Party school in Cerkno. During the attack on the school, on 27 January, she was killed by the Germans. In Nova Gorica, an elementary school and a sports hall are named after her, and in Solkan also a street.
