Ljerka Finžgar

In 1964, Ljerka Finžgar was invited by director Oleg Vrtačnik to join the Meblo factory in Nova Gorica as a professional associate, where she fully dedicated herself to industrial furniture design. She worked within the Meblo Furniture Industry Institute, which was established the same year as an independent institution. When the institute was dissolved in 1972 due to reorganisation, she continued her work in the Meblo Design department.

Finžgar headed the department until 1984, after which she worked as an independent design expert in Meblo’s Ljubljana branch until her retirement in 1992. She established herself across various fields: particularly innovative were her modular, system-based furniture designs, which marked a departure from traditional suite production. She most enjoyed designing seating furniture and also distinguished herself in the design of Meblo’s annual trade fair exhibitions in Belgrade.
