The cultural association KUD Morgan, under the artistic direction of Tadej Stolič, has been dedicated since 2012 to organising music festivals, concert series, and individual events in the wider Goriška region and Friuli Venezia Giulia. It is considered one of the key organisers of music events in Nova Gorica and its surroundings, with a programme that places particular emphasis on jazz, folk, world music, and contemporary Slovenian music.
Their most recognisable “brand” is the cross-border international World Music Festival, held at Kromberk Castle in cooperation with the Goriška Museum since 2011, and since 2019 also organised in neighbouring Gorizia and its surroundings in collaboration with the Italian association Controtempo. The association is also responsible for organising and curating other concert series and cultural events.
As part of the year-round festival Ubrane note, they organise various concert cycles such as (contemporary jazz scene), ObGlasBo (intersections of music and voice with other artistic practices), Kvantavtorske sabotaže (special singer-songwriter concerts featuring artists such as Damir Avdić, Jani Kovačič, Demolition Group, Haiku Garden, etc.), and the Music Day (a global music event celebrated annually on 21 June since 1982). Since 2018, they have also organised the regional concert series Pretočnice in the Soča Valley, connecting local spaces through events at various locations.
In addition to concerts, the association organises lectures, round tables, and discussions on music and art. Particularly noteworthy are the Vinyl Evenings at Kromberk Castle, where they regularly host prominent figures from the Slovenian music scene. The concept is simple: music enthusiasts and vinyl collectors (editors, journalists, musicians, DJs) present lectures on various musical topics. There is only one rule—the music must be played from vinyl or another analogue sound format. The list of guests has steadily grown over the years, including Igor Vidmar, Tomaž Domicelj, Esad Babačić, Drago Mislej Mef, Jernej Vene, Dragan Bulič, Zvone Tomac, Marko Vuksanovič, Drago Vovk, Brane Rončel, Jure Potokar, Borja Močnik, Igor Bašin, Jizah, Žiga Klančar, Luka Zagoričnik, Boris Bradač, and many others.
KUD Morgan is one of those indispensable actors whose carefully curated programme—reflecting trends in the broader international space—ensures the vitality of the Goriška music scene, strengthens cultural connections across the border, and brings together musicians and audiences from both sides.
